See me on:
In the midst of significant life changes, including a divorce, the sale of my home and not having planned to be an empty nester within a matter of months, I found an unexpected opportunity for self-discovery and reinvention. Embracing the principles of adaptability and resilience, I embarked on a journey influenced by Matthew McConaughey's book, "Greenlights." Inspired to lead a simpler life, I envisioned residing in an Airstream—a symbol of freedom and continuous progress, with a sincere appreciation for culture and connection. There were a million reasons it didn’t make sense, but there was a million and one reasons it did.
Navigating this transformative period, I shifted my mindset from dwelling on unmet expectations to focusing on making tangible progress. The chaos surrounding the divorce and sale of the house was amplified by my daughter's graduation, relocating my eldest to her first apartment, and an exciting career change within the company I have been fortunate enough to work with for the last decade, provided valuable lessons in staying present amidst challenges.
Choosing an Airstream wasn't just about a living arrangement; it represented a commitment to authenticity, empathy, and the power of genuine connections. My support system, particularly my Dad and Jeanne, played a pivotal role, earning the affectionate title of Basecamp. Their guidance, from practical matters like weather alerts to profound moral support, illuminated the strength found in authentic relationships.
The road trip with my father reinforced the possibility of this unconventional lifestyle, showcasing the power of genuine excitement and shared experiences. Reflecting on past obstacles as opportunities for personal growth, I began to understand the influence of my thoughts on my overall well-being.
